During the last two months I have hosted three live election debates on Beat the Drum. The final two broadcasts took place in Stonehaven Town Hall. On Wedbesday 25th all ten candidates took part in a debate and the meeting was attended by around 50 members of the public who asked a range of questions regarding local issues.
The final broadcast was on Sunday 29th April from 10.00 to 12.00. Candidates were given the opportunity to choose their own topics for discussion. Both broadcasts are now available on the Listen Again feature for Beat the Drum. Enjoy. Ken Venters
On Wednesday 9th November Beat the Drum featured an interview with Rod Mc Donald following the publication of his 5th novel entitled The Darkness Below.
Rod has dived many wrecks around the UK and in foreign waters including the South China Seas.
The fascinating stories contained in his new book are discussed during the interview.
Check out the Beat the Drum Listen Again link to listen to the interview and a series of other recent shows.
Enjoy

My next guest on Wednesday 1st. September is the Provost of Aberdeenshire Council Councillor Bill Howatson. If you would like me to put a question to him then contact me via the blog or email Ken.Venters@mearnsfm.org.uk.
There are many politic issues at present ranging from the success of the coalition government to the pressure facing us in Aberdeenshire with the range of cuts the council will be forced to implement.
Express your view to enable me to put your questions to the Provost on Wednesday 1st.
The annual general meeting of Mearns FM will take place on Thursday 2nd September at 7.30 in the Town Hall Stonehaven. members of the public are welcome to come along and find out what happens at your community radio station. If you would like to get involved with Mearns FM please come along and talk to us on the night. Hope to see you all there.
The Portlethen Gala organised by Alan Sanderson on behalf of the charity he works for namely Befriend a Child was another opportunity for Mearns FM to get out onto the community and perform at yet another road show.
Unfortunately the weather was not too kind and we suffered from torrential rain on a number of occasions which detracted from a fun day. There was a large number of live bands performing on stage which was enjoyed by the crowd who had turned out for the gala. If you were there let us have your feedback.
